I was recently doing a program for my client, Colliers International in Budapest, Hungry and I was stunned by how similar we all are.
Many of my colleagues went to great lengths to let me know how different we are from our friends in central and eastern Europe ( e.g., Serbia, Romania, Czech, Slovakia, Poland et. al.). I have to confess that even though I have been training for many years now and have spoken to some pretty tough audiences, including prisoners in the California Penal System, I was nervous. Traveling 6,500 miles is a long way to go to flop.
Well I am here to tell you my fears were a waste of time and energy. As long as I talked the universal language of "what's in it for the audience" I was home free. Sure my stories and examples had to be more international but the core message remained the same: "Here's what personal branding can do for you."
Sure there are cultural idiosyncrasies (e.g. asking people what they do for a living is rude in some parts of the world). But when it come to what really matters we are pretty much wired the same.
So my message to you is get out of your head and communicate with your heart.

Good post.
