As a practicing Catholic I have to acknowledge that there have been very few scandals in the history of America that have wrecked such havoc on many of America's children than the child abuse scandal of the Catholic Church.
At the center of the scandal for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles is His Excellency Cardinal Roger Mahoney. I am happy that the Church has finally settled all of the sexual abuse claims against the archdiocese. The total dollar amount of $660 million pales in comparison to the destruction done by some very bad priests.
It is now time for the Cardinal to go. He was in a no win situation. If he was as evil as the plaintiffs contend he was than no punishment could be enough. Only the Lord can deliver the just retribution. If he is simply the person upon whom the house of cards collapsed the truth will never see the light of day because of the level of anger.
The best that can be said is Cardinal Mahoney presided over the resolution of a very dark time in the Church. It would have been wise and unfair to appoint a successor to navigate the storm. Whether intended or not, it was wise to let Cardinal Mahoney see the matter to it's rightful end. Whomever succeds the Cardinal should have the opportunity to start anew.
It is time to bring on someone new who can rally the greatest charitable institution in the history of mankind to the stature it once enjoyed.

That was an inspiring post,
Keep up the good work,
Thanks for bringing this up
